Toyota Stadium, Association football stadium in Toyota, Japan
Toyota Stadium is an association football venue in the city of Toyota in Aichi Prefecture, offering space for over 40,000 spectators and structured around four tall masts. The seating areas spread across several levels, with the masts dividing the stands into distinct sections for easier orientation.
Construction began in September 1997 and lasted until the opening in July 2001, with the facility completed in time for the 2002 football World Cup. The venue was designed to host several matches during the tournament and has since witnessed numerous domestic and international encounters.
The stadium takes its name from the city, which grew around the headquarters of a major car manufacturer shaping the local economy and identity for decades. Home football matches draw fans from across the prefecture, who use the venue as a central meeting point and gathering space.
Two railway stations sit nearby: Toyotashi on the Meitetsu Toyota Line and Shin-Toyota on the Aichi Loop Line provide quick connections from the region. The paths from the station to the entrance are well signposted, and match days see noticeably heavier foot traffic than quiet days.
An accordion-style retractable roof rests on supports between the spectator areas, but operates only rarely. High running costs mean the moving roof sees use only for special occasions.
