Ikaruga, Historic Buddhist town in Ikoma district, Japan

Ikaruga extends across 14.27 square kilometers of land in Nara Prefecture, with Mount Matsuo and the Tatsuta River defining its natural boundaries.

The formal establishment of Ikaruga as an administrative division occurred on February 11, 1947, during Japan's post-war governmental restructuring period.

The town contains multiple Buddhist temples, including Hōryū-ji and Hokki-ji, which demonstrate the architectural methods of ancient Japanese wooden construction.

Visitors reach Ikaruga through the Kansai Main Line at Hōryūji Station or by taking National Routes 25 and 168 that connect to surrounding regions.

The Fujinoki and Kasuga burial mounds within Ikaruga preserve artifacts and structural elements from Japan's ancient imperial periods.
