Tsuru University, Public university in Tsuru, Japan
Tsuru University is a public institution in Tsuru, Yamanashi Prefecture, that includes two faculties for letters and liberal arts. The programs center on education, Japanese and English literature, and social sciences.
The institution started in 1953 as a temporary school for teacher training and became a municipal junior college in 1955. University status was achieved in 1960.
The campus takes its name from a city once known for its cranes, though these birds no longer inhabit the region. Students use the library as a gathering spot where they study together and discuss their projects between lectures.
The campus sits directly next to Tsurubunkadaigakumae station, which offers a direct rail connection. The grounds are compact and can be explored on foot, with clear signs pointing to the main buildings.
The grounds contain a small forest where flying squirrels live and can sometimes be spotted at dusk. Mount Fuji forms a distinct backdrop behind the campus buildings on clear days.
