Chūrei-tō Pagoda

The red and white pagoda stands on a mountainside overlooking Fujiyoshida City with Mount Fuji rising in the background across a valley.

The pagoda was constructed in 1963 as a monument to honor the citizens of Fujiyoshida who lost their lives during conflicts from the 1850s to World War II.

The structure integrates traditional Japanese architectural elements within the Arakura Sengen Shrine complex, representing both memorial and religious functions.

Visitors must climb 400 stone steps from the base of Arakura Sengen Shrine to reach the pagoda, which remains accessible 24 hours daily without entrance fees.

Mid-April brings cherry blossoms while early November displays red maple leaves, creating seasonal frames for photographs of the pagoda with Mount Fuji.
