Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, Aerial tramway in Fujikawaguchiko, Japan.
Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway is an aerial tramway that ascends from Lake Kawaguchiko's eastern shore to Mount Tenjo's summit, climbing approximately 400 meters in elevation. The cabins provide expansive views of Mount Fuji and the surrounding lakes throughout the journey.
Operations began in January 1959 with formal inauguration arriving in July of that year. This early-era facility was among the first projects to open the area for visitors exploring Mount Fuji's surroundings.
The cabins feature characters from Japanese folklore, particularly from the Kachi-Kachi-Yama tale with rabbits and badgers. These designs connect the journey with storytelling traditions rooted in the region's past.
Frequent departures run every 5 to 10 minutes throughout the day, allowing flexible timing without extended waits. The observation area at the top features accessible pathways where visitors can enjoy views and explore the surroundings comfortably.
At the observation deck, visitors can try Kawarake throwing, an activity where clay discs are tossed through small rope rings. This traditional game offers an unexpected hands-on experience that many travelers discover only by chance.
