Sakado, Residential city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.
Sakado is a residential city in Saitama Prefecture that sits east of Tokyo and is crossed by the Koma River. The urban area forms a continuous settlement with neighborhoods, small commercial zones, and streets that carry daily life throughout the community.
During the Muromachi period Sakado-juku developed as a post station on the Nikko Wakiokan highway that carried travelers north. The settlement later grew into the present city and retained parts of the historic route alignment in its layout.
The city maintains two seasonal segments of the Yosakoi dance festival, incorporating traditional performances in summer and autumn celebrations.
The city sits roughly 40 kilometers west of central Tokyo and connects to the capital and surrounding towns through commuter trains. Visitors walking through residential areas will find smaller shops, eateries, and parks within reach of the train stations.
The Jigenji temple shelters a weeping cherry tree classified as a natural monument that blooms among the first in the area each spring. Local residents watch for the first ten blossoms as a sign of the coming season and often visit the tree at that time.
