Iwata Station, railway station in Iwata, Shizuoka prefecture, Japan
Iwata Station is a railway station located in the city of Iwata in Shizuoka Prefecture and serves the Tokaido Main Line. The above-ground building features a straightforward layout with two platforms connected by a footbridge, comprising one side platform and one island platform that handle passenger movements throughout the day.
The station was founded in April 1889 as Nakaizumi Station and was part of the connection between Shizuoka and Hamamatsu. It received its current name, Iwata Station, in 1942 and underwent major renovations in 1915, 1957, and 2000 to remain functional for modern passenger service.
The station takes its name from the city of Iwata and serves as a gathering point for the local community. A large statue of Júbilo-kun, the mascot of the local football club Júbilo Iwata, stands at the north entrance where fans regularly stop to take photographs and celebrate their connection to the team.
The station is easy to navigate with automated ticket gates and multiple ticket machines for purchasing fares. For travelers with mobility challenges, ramps and clear signage help ensure that everyone can use the station comfortably and without difficulty.
The station received a station code, CA31, in 2018 to help travelers navigate more easily, especially those unfamiliar with Japanese. This coding system demonstrates how the station adapted to meet modern traveler needs while preserving its long operational history.
