Hamamatsu Science Museum, Science museum in Naka-ku, Hamamatsu, Japan.
The Hamamatsu Science Museum is a science museum organized into five distinct zones covering nature, sound, light, energy, and space. Each area invites visitors to interact with displays and conduct hands-on experiments to understand scientific principles.
The facility first opened its doors in May 1986 and was designed by architect Mitsuru Senda. After substantial renovation work, it reopened in July 2019 with the nickname Mirai-ra.
The museum displays technologies from major regional companies such as Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, and Roland. Visitors can see how these firms have shaped the area's economy and what innovations have emerged locally.
The museum is located roughly seven minutes on foot from Hamamatsu Station, making it convenient to reach. Younger visitors benefit from free entry, while adults should expect to pay a modest admission fee.
Inside the facility, the planetarium called Tokimekira offers original programs featuring live commentary on celestial observations. The dome also hosts special evening events designed specifically for adult visitors.
