Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise, Marine theme park and aquarium complex on Hakkeijima island near Yokohama, Japan
Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is an amusement park and marine life complex on an artificial island in Yokohama Bay. The complex includes four separate aquarium buildings with underwater tunnels and outdoor pools, as well as rides distributed across the grounds.
Architect Kiyoshi Seike designed the facility, which opened on May 8, 1993. It was built as part of a larger waterfront development project in Yokohama during the early 1990s.
The Sea Farm section of the park educates visitors about Japanese fishing practices and marine conservation through interactive demonstrations and exhibitions.
Entry to the island itself is free, while aquariums and rides require separate admission. Visitors can choose individual areas or combination tickets that cover multiple attractions.
The Leviathan roller coaster runs partly over the bay's seawater. One aquarium tank holds around 50,000 sardines that swim together in shifting formations.
