Kasaoka, Port city in Okayama Prefecture, Japan

The city stretches along the Seto Inland Sea, encompassing 31 islands and combining mountainous terrain in the north with reclaimed flatlands in the south.

During the Edo period, the Mizuno clan invested in civil engineering projects to create new rice fields, transforming the agricultural landscape of Kasaoka.

The Kasaoka Islands host traditional Obon Festival Dances on Shiraishi-jima Island, recognized as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset of Japan.

The Kasaoka station provides railway connections while the port facilities enable maritime transportation and fishing activities across the Seto Inland Sea.

The city maintains the world's only Horseshoe Crab Museum, dedicated to research and preservation of these ancient marine creatures in protected breeding grounds.
