Nishi-ku

Located in southwestern Niigata City, Nishi-ku stretches over 176 square kilometers with borders reaching the Sea of Japan and Mount Yahiko.

The area emerged from the merger of multiple municipalities, including the town of Sone and village of Iwamuro, before becoming an official ward in 2005.

The ward maintains 13 elementary schools and 6 middle schools, fostering educational development while preserving local traditions through community centers.

The ward office at Teraohigashi provides essential administrative services to 55,963 residents across 20,369 households, managing local infrastructure and development.

Nishi-ku contains natural springs at Iwamuro Onsen and Taho Onsen, while offering recreational spaces at Uwasekigata Lagoon Park.
