Gosen, Administrative city in Niigata Prefecture, Japan

Gosen spans 351.91 square kilometers with a population density of 138 persons per square kilometer across 19,086 households in north-central Niigata Prefecture.

The city formed on November 3, 1954, through the merger of Gosen town with Sumoto, Kawahigashi, and Hashida villages, later incorporating Muramatsu town in 2006.

The city celebrates its heritage through the selection of Sakura as its official tree symbol and Paeonia suffruticosa as its representative flower.

Transportation infrastructure includes the JR East Banetsu West Line with multiple stations, the Ban-etsu Expressway, and National Route 290 connecting surrounding municipalities.

Gosen maintains strong agricultural production, specializing in cut flowers, peonies, satoimo, and kiwi fruit cultivation throughout its territory.
