Namekawa Great Falls, Mountain waterfall in Yonezawa, Japan
Namekawa Great Falls cascades down 80 meters of rhyolite rock, creating multiple streams across a 100-meter-wide natural formation in Yamagata Prefecture.
The Japanese Ministry of the Environment recognized this natural formation in 1990 by including it in the official list of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls.
The waterfall stands near Namekawa Onsen, a 200-year-old hot springs resort where visitors experience traditional Japanese bathing customs before hiking.
The complete hiking route to the waterfall base spans 4.2 kilometers, requiring 2.5 hours for a round trip through varying elevation changes.
The falls create a fan horsetail pattern at 860 meters elevation, with water flowing down multiple channels across an expansive rock face.
