Suntopia World, Amusement park in Agano, Japan
Suntopia World is an amusement park at the foot of Mount Gozu in Agano with about 30 rides and a large Ferris wheel overlooking rice fields. The grounds extend over several zones with thrill rides, playgrounds, and themed areas designed for different age groups.
The park opened in 1976 under the name Yasuda Island, combining entertainment with the regional countryside. A complete renewal in 1998 brought the new name and transformed the concept into a modern leisure park.
The name joins sun with topia for place, reflecting the idea of a bright destination for families. Italian elements appear in different spots, such as stone statues or rides that create a southern mood.
Free parking is available for thousands of vehicles, making arrival by car straightforward. Those coming by train can use free shuttle buses from Niigata or Niitsu station that run regularly to the park.
The Alaska Ice House attraction offers temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius in the middle of Japanese summer. Visitors dress warmly and step inside for a few minutes into extreme cold, a contrast to the heat outside.
