Kitahiroshima, Modern residential city in Ishikari region, Japan
Kitahiroshima is a city in Hokkaido located within the Ishikari Subprefecture, spreading across roughly 119 square kilometers. The settlement lies southeast of Sapporo and contains residential areas, universities, and sports facilities on relatively flat terrain.
Families from Hiroshima Prefecture founded the settlement in 1884, which grew and developed through the following decades. The municipality officially became a city in 1996 and has experienced further urban development since then.
The name reflects the city's origin from settlers who came from Hiroshima Prefecture, with the prefix "Kita" marking its northern location. Residents use the modern residential districts and educational facilities as part of daily life in this commuter community.
Access is available via the Chitose railway line or national routes 36 and 274, which provide connections to surrounding areas. Visitors will find typical urban facilities on site and can inquire at local tourism offices about opening hours and current events.
The baseball stadium Es Con Field Hokkaido opened in March 2023 and now hosts the home games of the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. The modern venue attracts both sports fans and visitors interested in contemporary architecture.
