Katano, Administrative division in Osaka Prefecture, Japan
Katano is a city in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, located on the western edge of the North Kawachi area. The Amano River cuts through the center, while forested hills cover nearly half the land.
The area served as hunting grounds for the imperial court during the Heian period, which gave the place its name. In 1889 the villages of Katano and Iwafune were officially established, later merging to form the present city.
The city takes its name from old hunting grounds once used by the imperial court. Today residential neighborhoods define the urban landscape, while forested slopes in the background provide a quiet frame.
Two railway companies connect the city to larger centers in the Osaka region, making access straightforward. Forested areas lie mainly in the eastern section, while residential streets run through the western zone.
The urban area spreads across more than thirty thousand households, reflecting a mostly suburban residential structure. The river marks a natural dividing line between the flatter settlements to the west and the forested slopes to the east.
