Yanai

Yanai is a coastal city in Yamaguchi Prefecture that spreads across a flat landscape meeting the Seto Inland Sea. The surrounding area includes hills and portions of a large national marine park nearby.

The settlement began in 1889 as a village and gradually grew through administrative reorganizations until it became a city in 1954. This slow transformation reflects how the region developed over time.

The city is accessible by train stations on the main JR line and connected through two major national highways. This makes moving around and reaching other parts of the region straightforward for visitors.

The city runs a power station that uses liquefied natural gas to generate electricity for the whole region. Few visitors realize this facility plays a major role in keeping the area supplied with energy.
