Nishi-ku, Administrative ward in Fukuoka, Japan
Nishi-ku stretches across 83.81 square kilometers on the western side of Fukuoka City, bordering Sawara-ku and reaching the coastline of Itoshima.
The ward underwent significant restructuring in 1982 when local authorities divided the original territory into three separate administrative units: Nishi-ku, Sawara-ku, and Jonan-ku.
The Atago Shrine in Nishi-ku maintains traditional firewalking ceremonies during annual festivals, connecting residents with centuries-old Japanese spiritual practices.
The Nanakuma subway line provides transportation throughout the ward, complementing the existing Fukuoka City Subway and Chikuhi Line for efficient travel options.
Sky Dream Fukuoka within the ward features entertainment facilities and retail spaces, while offering direct access to both Nokonoshima and Genkai islands.
