Shin-Marunouchi Building, Commercial skyscraper in Marunouchi, Japan
Shin-Marunouchi Building is a commercial tower in central Tokyo's business district with 38 floors above ground and 4 levels below, containing shops, restaurants, and offices throughout. The structure integrates directly with Tokyo Station via underground passageways, creating a seamless connection between the complex and public transportation.
The building replaced a previous eight-story structure from 1952 that had occupied the site for decades. Construction of the new tower began in 2005 as part of a major urban renewal effort that reshaped the Marunouchi district.
British architect Michael Hopkins designed this building to reflect the traditions of Marunouchi while creating a modern international business center.
The complex features clear zones for shopping, dining, and offices across its levels, making it easy to navigate and find what you need. Underground connections to Tokyo Station provide convenient access in any weather.
A seventh-floor terrace offers open views across to the restored historic Tokyo Station building directly facing it. This vantage point shows how the new structure sits beside older architecture, creating an interesting contrast visible from the terrace.
