Kikuchi

Located 25 kilometers northeast of Kumamoto City, Kikuchi extends across 276 square kilometers with a population of 46,684 inhabitants in 20,392 households.

The area served as the base for the Kikuchi clan, who descended from Dazaifu government officials and supported the Southern Court during the Nanboku-cho period.

The city maintains a strong agricultural tradition, producing award-winning rice varieties and operating as western Japan's largest dairy farming region.

Kikuchi operates ten elementary schools, five junior high schools, and two high schools, while transportation relies on road networks since railway services ended in 1986.

The region features natural hot springs that developed into resort destinations from the 1950s, complemented by modern automobile and electronics manufacturing facilities.
