Shimada Station, railway station in Shimada, Shizuoka prefecture, Japan
Shimada Station is an above-ground stop on the Tokaido Main Line in the city of Shimada, Shizuoka Prefecture. It has two platforms connected by a footbridge, along with automatic ticket machines and a staffed office.
The station opened in 1889 when the Tokaido line first reached this part of Shizuoka Prefecture. Over the decades it grew alongside the city and became a regular stop on one of Japan's most traveled rail corridors.
The station name mirrors the city it serves, which is a common practice across Japan. On weekday mornings, the platforms fill with commuters heading toward Shizuoka or other towns along the line.
The station layout is straightforward and easy to navigate even for first-time visitors, with signage in both Japanese and English. Staff are on hand during the day if you need help at the ticket machines or with connections.
In 2018, the station was assigned the line code CA24 to make navigation easier for passengers unfamiliar with the local stops. Until the 1980s, freight services also ran from here, moving goods across the country before that activity ended.
