Shin-Tamana Station, railway station in Tamana, Kumamoto prefecture, Japan
Shin-Tamana Station is a railway station in Tamana, Kumamoto Prefecture on Kyushu, Japan. The station has two platforms and is served by the Kyushu Shinkansen, which operates fast trains between Hakata and Kagoshima-Chuo.
The station opened in 2011 as part of the first Kyushu Shinkansen line between Hakata and Shin-Yatsushiro. It marked an important step in improving travel times across the island.
The station building offers ticket machines and a counter where you can purchase tickets. There are waiting areas with benches, clean restrooms, a small cafe, and shops selling travel essentials and local souvenirs.
The station was one of the first in Japan where plans existed to operate platforms without staff to reduce costs. The straight layout and simple usage made this feasible and showed a new approach in Japan's railway system.
