Ōishida Station, railway station in Oishida, Kitamurayama district, Yamagata prefecture, Japan
Ōishida Station is an above-ground railway station in Ōishida town, Yamagata Prefecture, serving travelers via two main lines including the Yamagata Shinkansen. The simple building features two platforms connected by a footbridge, a staffed ticket office, waiting areas with seating, restrooms, and vending machines for passengers.
The station opened in October 1901 and has served as a key transportation hub for more than 120 years. A new station building was completed in 1983, and since 1987 it has been operated by JR East following the privatization of Japanese National Railways.
The station serves as a daily anchor for the local community, where commuters and residents shape the rhythm of travel and connection. It reflects how Japanese towns rely on rail networks to stay linked with neighboring cities and preserve their way of life.
The station offers elevator access to both platforms and provides ticket machines and a staffed counter for your convenience. Local trains connect to nearby towns in 30 to 50 minutes, while Shinkansen trains reach Yamagata in about 45 minutes and Tokyo in roughly 2 hours.
The station was once connected to the Obanazawa Railroad, a private railway that operated from 1926 to 1970 and played an important role in local industry at the time. Although this line no longer exists, it demonstrates how rail connections shaped the region's economic history and development.
