Kozushima

Kozushima is a village occupying an island in the Philippine Sea off Tokyo, featuring white sandy beaches and hiking routes that wind through its landscape. The central volcano Mount Tenjo dominates the island and serves as the focal point for trails and observation areas.

The village became officially established in 1923 when the Izu Islands underwent administrative reorganization, gaining its status as a separate municipality. This moment marked the beginning of the island's development as a recognized administrative entity.

The islanders maintain strong ties to the sea, with fishing remaining central to daily life and local identity. This connection also shapes the production of Moriwaka, a regional spirit that reflects the community's heritage.
