Yaotsu, Mountain town in Kamo District, Japan
Located between the Hida River and Kiso River, Yaotsu spreads across 128 square kilometers of land where forests cover 80 percent of the territory.
The town gained official recognition on July 1, 1889, and expanded through mergers with neighboring villages Chiwa in 1955, followed by Kutami, Shionami, and Fukuchi in 1956.
The Hill of Humanity Park contains monuments dedicated to diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who provided visas to Jewish refugees during World War II.
The Memorial Hall opens from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM every day except Mondays, national holidays, and New Year's Day.
The Old Yaotsu Power Plant, constructed in 1911, stands as the earliest facility on the Kiso River and now functions as a museum.
