Kamigori

Kamigori is a town in southwestern Hyōgo Prefecture situated across a rural landscape of hills and valleys. It shares borders with several neighboring municipalities and is connected to larger cities through rail and road networks.

The region served as a stronghold for the Akamatsu clan during the Muromachi period and held strategic importance in that era's power structure. Over time, the territory was divided among different domains before coming under Tokugawa administration.

Craftspeople here practice ancient arts such as sword forging and glassmaking as living traditions. These skills are woven into the everyday rhythm of the town and connect residents to centuries-old methods.

The town is accessible via the JR San'yo Main Line and Chizu Express trains, with National Routes 2 and 373 offering road connections. Visiting the local craft workshops is possible year-round, so plan according to the activities that interest you most.

Elders here teach workshops where younger people learn to craft replicas of samurai armor using recycled materials. These projects show how traditional skills are reinvented in contemporary ways.
