Sakaki

Sakaki is a town located in Hanishina district in north-central Nagano Prefecture, with the Chikuma River running through its landscape. The area combines flat and gently rolling terrain with residential neighborhoods, farmland, and small commercial zones.

Sakaki was established as an administrative town in 1889 and expanded significantly through mergers with nearby communities during the 1950s and 1960s. These consolidations shaped the boundaries and structure of the modern municipality.

The town maintains three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school operated by the Nagano Prefectural Board of Education.

The Shinano Railway Line and National Route 18 connect the town to surrounding areas and larger cities in the region. Visitors can travel by train, car, or local buses to get around the town and reach nearby destinations.

The local economy relies heavily on manufacturing, particularly construction equipment production by a major industrial company. This industrial presence coexists with traditional agriculture focused on rice and fruit crops.
