Oarai, Coastal town in Higashiibaraki district, Japan

Oarai extends across 23.89 square kilometers of flatlands near the Pacific Ocean and borders Lake Hinuma, the 30th largest freshwater body in Japan.

The town formed in 1954 through the merger of Onuki and Isohama villages, marking a significant administrative reorganization in the Higashiibaraki district.
