Naoshima, Art island in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan

The Naoshima island extends over 14 square kilometers in the Seto Inland Sea and contains several modern art museums designed by architect Tadao Ando.

The area transformed from a small fishing community into an administrative town in 1954, later developing into an international art destination through Benesse Corporation initiatives.

The Chichu Art Museum presents permanent exhibitions of Claude Monet paintings and installations by James Turrell within an underground concrete structure.

Visitors reach the island via regular ferry services from Takamatsu Port in Kagawa Prefecture or Uno Port in Okayama Prefecture throughout the day.

The Naoshima Bath combines the functions of a traditional Japanese public bathhouse with contemporary art installations created by artist Shinro Ohtake.
