王子アルカディアリゾートホテル, Abandoned hotel in Tamano, Japan
The Ouji Arcadia Resort Hotel is a seven-story concrete building with two basement levels on Mount Ouji in Tamano, Okayama Prefecture, overlooking the Seto Ohashi Bridge. It has multiple wings arranged around open courtyards and was planned as a full-service luxury resort.
Construction began in 1992 as part of a development project in a national park zone, then stopped in 1993 before the interior was finished, when an economic downturn cut off funding. The building has remained in that state ever since.
The hotel name comes from Arcadia, a place in Greek mythology associated with a lost paradise, which reflects the bold ambitions of Japan's economic boom years. Today, visitors come to walk through the empty floors and take in the view of the Seto Inland Sea from the upper levels.
The site is easiest to reach by car, and the roads around the mountain are narrow, so careful driving is advised. Anyone planning to explore the inside should bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, as many areas are dark and unfinished.
Although the building never opened, the view from its upper floors is one of the widest overlooking the Seto Inland Sea and the Seto Ohashi Bridge in the area. Many visitors who come for the abandoned structure end up surprised by that panorama.
