Yakumo, Coastal town in southern Hokkaido, Japan.
The municipality spans 955.98 square kilometers of land between the Sea of Japan and Pacific Ocean, with mountains defining its borders.
Founded in 1881 as a village in Yamakosi District, Yakumo merged with Yamakoshinai village in 1902 and gained town status in 1919.
The Yakumo Folk Museum displays traditional wooden bear sculptures that originated in the region, representing local craftsmanship and artistic traditions.
Visitors can access Yakumo through the Hakodate Main Line railway or National Routes 5 and 229, connecting to major destinations in Hokkaido.
The Kumaishi Fishing Port provides fresh seafood specialties including Aburako, hokke, karei, kajika, and soi throughout the year.
