Niikappu, Rural community in Hidaka Subprefecture, Japan

The town extends from the Pacific Ocean to the Hidaka Mountains along the Niikappu River, covering 585 square kilometers of varied terrain.

The establishment of Niikappu in 1923 marked an important development in Hokkaido's post-World War I administrative organization and local governance structure.

The Forest of the Sun Dimaccio Museum displays French artist Gerard Dimaccio's works in a former elementary school building within the Taiyo district.

Local transportation relies on Donan Bus services since the closure of JR Hokkaido Hidaka Main Line between Mukawa and Samani in 2021.

Niikappu houses Japan's largest vinyl record museum and features Deikazan, the only mud volcano documented in the country.
