Sunshine City, Building complex in Higashi-Ikebukuro, Japan
Sunshine City spreads across several buildings in eastern Tokyo, including Sunshine 60 Tower, Prince Hotel, World Import Mart, and Bunka Kaikan. The complex connects office space with shopping zones, restaurants, an aquarium on upper floors, and entertainment facilities on multiple levels.
The complex was built in 1966 on the former site of Sugamo Prison, which served as a detention facility after the war. Over time the site transformed into a commercial and leisure district, drawing thousands of visitors today.
The Ancient Orient Museum displays artifacts from the Near East and Central Asia, including Greco-Buddhist art and Persian collections. Visitors walk through exhibition rooms viewing objects from ancient cultures, gaining insight into trade routes and artistic traditions.
Visitors reach the complex through Ikebukuro Station with direct access to different areas. Signage guides people to shopping zones, restaurants, and upper floors where the aquarium and observation deck are located.
The Sky Circus observation deck on top of Sunshine 60 offers views over Tokyo and interactive installations. Namco Namja Town inside features themed restaurants, including an entire floor of dessert stands from different regions of Japan.
