Fukuzumi Station, metro station in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan
Fukuzumi Station is an underground railway station in Tsukisamu, a neighborhood of Sapporo, serving as the terminal end of the Tōhō Line. The station features two platforms with clear signage, is clean and straightforward in design, and has four exits leading to different parts of the surrounding area.
The station opened in 1994 to better connect southern Sapporo with the rest of the city and improve transportation options. Since then, usage has steadily grown, especially due to proximity to the Sapporo Dome and increasing population in the surrounding area.
The name Fukuzumi comes from the nearby Fukujuu-ji temple, founded in the early 1900s and still standing in the neighborhood today. The station serves as a daily gathering point for residents, especially on event days at the Sapporo Dome when sports fans converge and bring energy to the area.
The station is equipped with elevators at some exits and was one of the first to have movable platform gates for passenger safety. Signage in multiple languages helps visitors navigate easily and reach the various exits from any direction.
The station features an unusual platform configuration with an island platform positioned between two tracks, one for arriving trains and one for departing trains. This design enables efficient traffic flow despite the station handling thousands of passengers daily.
