Yomiuriland, Amusement park in Inagi, Tokyo, Japan
Yomiuriland is an amusement park in Inagi that stretches across several areas and offers more than 40 attractions, including roller coasters, a large Ferris wheel, and specially designed zones for different age groups. The park is organized into themed sections that cater to different interests and family members.
Yomiuriland opened as Yomiuri Land on 19 March 1964 on the slopes of the Tama Hills; it took its present name in 1968. A 1999 renewal added the Sky Shuttle ropeway and rebuilt the entrance, followed by Kidokido in 2012, Nittereranran Hall in 2014 and the Goodjoba!! area in 2016. In 2024 the park marked 60 years and opened the Sky-Go-LAND Ferris wheel on 24 October.
The Goodjoba!! area, opened on 18 March 2016, presents Japanese manufacturing as hands-on play rather than traditional craft. Its 17 attractions and five workshops are sponsored by companies such as Kokuyo, Nissin Foods, World, Shima Seiki and Nissan. At My Knit, visitors pedal and row to power a Shima Seiki WholeGarment knitting machine and take home a wristband with their initials.
The Sky Shuttle ropeway opened in 1999 as a transport link within the park, not from Keio-Yomiuriland Station; the park is served by that station on the Keio Sagamihara Line and by Yomiuriland-mae Station on the Odakyu Line. The grounds lie on the slopes of the Tama Hills, with the main area in Kawasaki's Tama Ward, so expect uphill walking between zones. The Ferris wheel Sky-Go-LAND, opened in 2024, has heated and air-conditioned gondolas and can be boarded with a wheelchair.
During winter months, the grounds transform with Jewellumination, which displays millions of LED lights in geometric patterns and creative designs across the park. This seasonal light show has become a popular evening program that draws visitors after dark.
