Yanase Takashi Memorial Hall

Yanase Takashi Memorial Hall, Biographical museum in Kami, Japan

The Yanase Takashi Memorial Hall is a four-story museum displaying original artwork, manuscripts, and personal belongings of the renowned artist and writer. The collection spans both historical documents and interactive exhibits that illuminate his creative career.

Artist and manga creator Takashi Yanase introduced the character Anpanman in the early 1950s, who eventually became a global phenomenon. The memorial hall preserves his legacy by gathering his major works and personal records in a dedicated space.

The basement section displays detailed dioramas showing streets and settings from the beloved children's manga character Anpanman's world. These exhibits reveal how the character and story shaped imagination for generations of readers.

The location is easy to access with combined tickets allowing you to visit multiple areas in one visit. It helps to plan enough time to explore all exhibition sections carefully and appreciate the detailed diorama installations.

The fourth floor showcases large-scale tableaus created by the artist himself, presenting original illustrations from his picture books in immersive room installations. These displays allow visitors to step into the visual worlds that shaped childhood imagination for millions.
