Himeji Central Park, Safari park in Himeji, Japan
Himeji Central Park is a safari facility in Himeji, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, covering a wide terrain with animal enclosures and amusement rides. The grounds divide into a safari section featuring animals from Africa and other continents, plus an entertainment area with roller coasters and carousels.
The facility opened in March 1984 as one of the first combined safari and amusement destinations in western Japan. The concept emerged from a desire to make wildlife observation accessible to families.
The facility takes its name from the nearby city and reflects Japanese appreciation for wildlife observation paired with recreational activities. Families often visit on weekends to spend time together exploring the different zones.
A Shinki bus line connects JR Himeji Station with the entrance in roughly 30 minutes, and visitors should arrive at least one hour before closing. The grounds cover a large area, so comfortable footwear for extended walking is advisable.
From the grounds, visitors can spot Himeji Castle in the distance, a rare pairing of wildlife and historical architecture. This perspective offers a contrast between the natural habitats of animals and the white castle tower on the horizon.
