Kōdera Museum of Folklore, 兵庫県姫路市にある資料館
The Kōdera Museum of Folklore is a folk museum housed in a building styled as a traditional Japanese home from decades past. It displays everyday objects including old tools, clothing, and household items that reveal how people in the region lived and worked.
The museum opened in 1971 and is housed in a building that once belonged to the Oda family, wealthy merchants from the area. Its founder traveled throughout the Kinki region gathering folk artifacts to preserve local traditions for future generations.
The museum reflects how local residents celebrated seasonal customs and practiced traditional crafts that shaped community life. Rooms are arranged to resemble family homes, allowing visitors to see how people organized their daily routines and shared their spaces.
The museum is about a ten-minute walk southeast from Koro Station on the JR Bantan Line. It opens on Sundays for individual visitors, but on weekdays only groups with advance reservations can enter, so planning your visit beforehand is helpful.
The building was recognized as one of the 100 best residences in Hyogo Prefecture and preserves traditional architecture with wooden beams and sliding doors. This carefully maintained structure makes visiting an authentic experience that goes beyond simply viewing displayed objects.
