Kunio Yanagita and Matsuoka-ke Family Memorial Museum

The Kunio Yanagita and Matsuoka-ke Family Memorial Museum displays artifacts, documents, and personal belongings related to the renowned Japanese folklorist and his family.

Established in 1975, the museum preserves the legacy of Kunio Yanagita, who received the Order of Culture Award and became the first Honorary Citizen of Fukusaki.

The museum exhibits materials documenting Japanese folklore studies, including Yanagita's research on hunting terminology and regional folk narratives throughout Japan.

Located at 1038-12 Nishidahara, the museum opens from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM and remains closed on Mondays, with specific closure dates in October and November.

The museum contains Yanagita's relocated birthplace, which he described as the smallest house in Japan, now preserved on the western side of the building.
