Dainichi-ji, Buddhist temple in Itano, Japan
Dainichi-ji stands as temple number four on the Shikoku pilgrimage route, situated five kilometers west of Konsen-ji in a rural setting.
The temple traces its origins to the 810s when Kobo Daishi established it and carved the main statue of Dainichi Nyorai for worship.
This Toji Shingon temple houses a revered statue of Dainichi Nyorai, drawing pilgrims who participate in traditional Buddhist rituals and prayers.
The temple provides essential services for pilgrims, including the distribution of temple stamps and ritual offerings during their spiritual journey.
Despite its modest size and limited historical records, the temple marks the first rural stop on the Shikoku pilgrimage circuit.
