Taiji

Taiji is a coastal town in Higashimuro District situated on a narrow peninsula at the southern edge of the Kii Peninsula, nestled between two bays. The area spans hilly terrain dotted with fishing villages, working harbors, and forested sections.

The town formed from the merging of several small settlements and received official town status in 1925. This consolidation strengthened local administration and helped shape the community into its modern form.

The town holds fishing and seafaring crafts close to its identity, with traditional knowledge passed down through families over many generations. You can see this heritage reflected in the working harbor, where fishing boats and nets are still prepared using time-honored methods.
