Sunomata Castle, Japanese castle in Ogaki, Japan

Sunomata Castle stands at the meeting point of the Sai and Nagara rivers, featuring wooden palisades, watchtowers, and dry moats as defensive elements.

Built in 1567 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi under Oda Nobunaga's command, the castle served as a strategic base for the successful attack on Inabayama Castle.

The castle museum displays models of the original structure, samurai armor, and weapons that represent the military traditions of feudal Japan.

The castle opens from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with an entrance fee of 200 yen for adults, while visitors under 18 years enter without charge.

The castle holds a gold killer whale sculpture on its watchtower, making it the sole Japanese castle with such an ornamental feature.
