The district covers 3,308 square kilometers of terrain in southwestern Kyrgyzstan, with Özgön town serving as its administrative headquarters.
The district, established in 1928, contains the historical city of Özgön, which appears in Chinese records from the second century BC.
The population of 282,981 residents represents a diverse mix of ethnic groups, with Kyrgyz making up 73.8% and Uzbeks comprising 22.2%.
The district encompasses one main town and 107 settlements distributed across 19 rural communities, maintaining local administrative services.
Located at the eastern end of the Ferghana Valley, the district sits alongside the Kara-Darya River at an elevation of 1,029 meters.
