Tash Rabat, Caravanserai in Kyrgyzstan
Tash Rabat is a well preserved 15th-century caravanserai situated in At Bashy district, Naryn Province, Kyrgyzstan.
Originally built as a Nestorian monastery during the 10th century, it was converted into a caravanserai for Silk Road travellers in the 15th century.
Despite debates on its origins, Tash Rabat remains an important cultural site representing the medieval architecture of the Kyrgyz nomadic culture.
Standing at an altitude of 3,200 meters above sea level, it provides visitors with breathtaking landscapes of surrounding valleys.
The structure is made of stone and comprises 31 rooms including ceremonial halls, sleeping chambers and even underground prison cells.
