Naryn Region, Administrative region in central Kyrgyzstan
The mountainous Naryn Region extends over 44,160 square kilometers, containing numerous alpine pastures and the pristine Song-Kul Lake at 3,000 meters elevation.
The region emerged in 1939 as Tien-Shan Region, underwent several administrative changes, and received its current name in 1970 after merging with Issyk-Kul Region.
The population of 308,348 residents maintains traditional practices of nomadic herding, moving livestock between seasonal pastures and residing in portable yurt dwellings.
The main transportation route connects China through Torugart Pass to Lake Issyk-Kul, serving as an essential corridor for regional trade and movement.
The ancient Tash Rabat stone fortress, constructed in the 15th century as a Silk Road caravanserai, stands preserved within the region's mountainous landscape.
