Orto-Tokoy Reservoir

The Orto-Tokoy Reservoir stretches for 18 kilometers with depths reaching 47 meters, containing over 4.7 billion cubic meters of water at 1750 meters elevation.

Built in 1956 as Kyrgyzstan's first water reservoir, this infrastructure project marked the beginning of large-scale water management initiatives in the country.

The reservoir supports agricultural practices across 120,000 hectares of land, connecting farming communities in both Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan through shared water resources.

The water levels vary seasonally, affecting irrigation capabilities for farmlands in the Chuy region and Southern Kazakhstan throughout different times of the year.

The water surface changes color throughout the day, displaying shades from soft blue to emerald green against the backdrop of gray-brown mountains.
