Dalseong Park, Historic park in central Daegu, South Korea

Dalseong Park is a large green space in the heart of Daegu with walking paths, mature trees, and different areas for exercise and rest. It also includes children's playgrounds and a zoo with tigers, ostriches, and seals.

The site began as Dalseong Fortress, an earthen rampart on a low hill, recorded in the Samguk Sagi as Dalbeolseong, built in 261 under King Cheomhae of Silla. Stone was added in 1390 under Goryeo King Gongyang, and the wall was rebuilt in stone in 1596. It became a park in 1905 and was designated Historic Site No. 62 in 1963.

The name Dalseong comes from Dalguhwa and Dalbulseong, old names for the area; the hill was called Dalguhwa-hyeon in Silla times and became Daegu-hyeon under King Gyeongdeok. The site was the seat of the Dalseong Seo clan, who gave the land to the state under King Sejong; Seo Chim asked instead for a reduction of grain loans, and a pagoda tree planted in his honour, the Seochim tree, is said to stand in the park. In 1915 members of the Korean Independence Corps and the Joseon National Sovereignty Recovery Corps met here to found the Korean Independence Association.

Dalseong Park sits at 35 Dalseonggongwon-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu, a short walk from Dalseong Park Station on Line 3 of the metro. Entry has been free since 1 April 2000. The main path runs straight from the entrance to a gate with a grey tiled roof, with four hedge-bordered planting beds set into the paving in two rows of two.

The zelkova-like pagoda tree known as 'Seochim namu' in the park is said to have been planted by King Sejong to honour Seo Chim, a member of the Dalseong Seo clan who donated the clan's land to the state and asked instead that grain loans owed by commoners be reduced by five seung per seok, a privilege kept until the end of Joseon. Seo Chim was later honoured at Guam Seowon in 1665.
