Gyeongsang-gamyeong Park, Historical park in Jung District, South Korea
Gyeongsang-gamyeong Park is a public park in Jung District, Daegu, laid out on the grounds of a former provincial government seat from the Joseon period. Several original wooden buildings, including the Seonhwadang and Jingcheonggak halls, still stand on site and are connected by pathways and garden areas.
The site served as the administrative seat of Gyeongsang Province for several centuries and was one of the main centers of regional power during the Joseon period. It continued to function as a government office after the colonial era ended, until provincial authorities moved out in 1965 and the grounds were opened to the public.
The Seonhwadang hall, once the main building of the provincial office, still stands in the park and shows the wooden architecture typical of the Joseon period, with curved roofs and open verandas. Visitors can walk up close to the structure and get a direct sense of how officials once moved through these spaces day to day.
The park is located in central Daegu and can be reached on foot from several metro stations nearby. Signs around the grounds explain each building, so a visit works well even without any prior knowledge of the site.
The Jingcheonggak hall served as the private residence of the provincial governor rather than a public administrative space, which sets it apart from the other structures on the grounds. It gives a direct sense of what it looked like to live and work in the same compound as a senior Joseon official.
