Medeu district

Medeu is a district in southeastern Almaty that stretches from residential neighborhoods into mountain territories. The area sits at around 1,700 meters elevation, blending urban and alpine landscapes together.

The district was created in 1936 initially as Frunze District and renamed to its current name in 1995. This renaming reflected changes in the city's development and identity.

The district inherited its name from Medeu Pusurmanov, a local resident whose properties were situated in the area during the early 20th century.

The area is well-developed with local administration supporting visitors and residents. The higher elevation requires some attention when planning physical activities.

The area contains a famous ice skating rink that gained worldwide attention through exceptional athletic achievements. The facility became a symbol of sporting excellence in the region.
