Верненская женская гимназия, Girls' gymnasium building from 1895 in Almaty, Kazakhstan

The Vernenskaya Girls' Gymnasium is a school building from around 1895 located in central Almaty. The structure combines Russian architectural traditions with eastern design elements and sits along Tole Bi Street.

The building was constructed near the end of the 19th century as one of the first schools for girls under Russian administration in the region. Its creation marked an important step in developing modern education in Kazakhstan.

The gymnasium brought together girls from across the region to study languages and classical subjects in a shared learning space. This institution opened educational pathways for women during a period when such opportunities were limited.

The building is located near public transportation and can be reached on foot from the city center. The site is easily accessible and positioned in a central area with other points of interest nearby.

Architect Andrei Zenkov used advanced earthquake-resistant techniques that proved highly effective during a major earthquake in 1911. The building remained structurally sound while many other structures in the city suffered damage.
